Forget about itsy bitsy bikinis, this year women’s swimwear is all about vintage glamour. Following the return of the retro one-piece last season, the high waisted bikini is now making a comeback across the catwalk and high street. This classic look is great for preserving a bit of modesty and channels the timeless glamour of the 1950s pinup girls.
Unfortunately this trend also comes hand-in-hand with a few dodgy tan-lines, but let’s face it, how often do you bare all away from the beach anyway? If you’re willing to sacrifice an all-over tan for elegant style this year, take a look at our quick guide on how to wear the high waisted bikini in 2012.
Floral and tribal patterns are all the rage this season and are a great way to update the classic high waisted look. Look out for cobalt blue, burnt orange and splashes of neon pink to get pulses racing around the pool this summer. Finish off a bold look with plenty of gold bracelets, aviator sunglasses and gladiator sandals.
Tip: Mix it up to create a flattering silhouette. Plain black bottoms with a brightly patterned top will help to draw attention upwards and away from any unwanted bulges.
Itsy bitsy may be out, but polka dot is definitely back and bigger than ever. This eye-catching pattern is available in almost every colour under the sun this season, so why not experiment with some new shades? Simply add huge sunglasses and heels to be the belle of the beach this summer.
The summer is the time to party and 2012’s vibrant neon trend has been plucked directly from the clubbing meccas of Ibiza and Miami. Hot pink and bright yellow look fantastic with a deep tan and are guaranteed to help you stand out from the sunbathing masses.
Tip: Add high waisted denim shorts and a white shirt to take the look straight from the beach to the club.
If you prefer your swimwear more laid-back in style, then why not blend together trends from two different decades? Fringed high waisted bikinis add a retro bohemian look to the glamorous 50’s trend. Fringed tops are also fantastic for adding bulk to smaller chests and will look effortlessly stylish at a summer festival.
gorgeous!

I like monokinis :) There's this one-piece suit that I really liked though. It was purple and gray. Couldn't buy it coz I couldn't afford it.
ReplyDeleteAll such pretty bathing suits! I usually stick to simple ones to mix and match though!
